Pretzel making is an old tradition that dates back centuries. Today, pretzels are often made with commercial dough mixes, which contain preservatives and other additives. This recipe for homemade pretzels uses natural ingredients, so you can enjoy these tasty treats without worrying about any harmful chemicals.
The recipe for pretzels that I bring you today is very easy to make, the pretzels come out tender, just crumbly enough, tasty, and amazing with or without a glass of good beer. I am sure that you will like it and that many of you will try this recipe, especially since these tender pretzels are made from unleavened dough.

HOW TO MAKE SOFT PRETZELS
Put all the ingredients, the butter, flour, egg yolks, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl and form a homogeneous dough.
Knead the composition for no more than 5-6 minutes. Don’t over-knead because we want soft pretzels, not an elastic bread-like texture. Knead just enough to bind the dough.
At the end, incorporate the grated mature cheddar cheese, and knead a little more until it is evenly distributed in the dough.
Start working with small pieces of dough and roll out a sheet about 0.5 cm thick. If the dough is sticky, put a little flour on the work table and on the rolling pin. Using the pretzel cookie cutter, cut the pretzels and place them one by one on a tray lined with a baking sheet.
Brush the pretzels with the beaten egg and sprinkle them with various seeds – cumin, sesame, poppy, or flax, according to your taste and liking. I sprinkled mine with finely grated mature cheddar cheese.
Heat the oven to 180 °C and put the pretzels in. Bake for 8-10 minutes or until they are golden brown. Let them cool down before taking them out of the pan, otherwise, they may break because they are quite tender. Enjoy!

- 1 tbsp sour cream
- 200 g mature cheddar cheese
- 10 g baking powder
- 1 egg for brushing
- cumin, sesame, or poppy seeds optional

- Put all the ingredients besides the cheese (butter, flour, egg yolk, baking powder, salt) in a large bowl and form a homogeneous dough. The composition must be kneaded for about 5-6 minutes. At the end, we incorporate the grated cheese, and knead a little more until it is evenly distributed in the dough.
